A Practical Introduction to Mindfulness

July 8, 2014

£85

Mindfulness is about learning to focus and quiet the mind; simple guided exercises can increase feelings of calm and wellbeing. In recent years there has been a rapid expansion in the use of mindfulness based approaches.

There is growing evidence to suggest that regular practice can bring about a wide range of benefits in physical and emotional health.

Research has shown efficacy for depression, anxiety, stress, pain relief and many other areas. It has also shown promise in substance misuse, where working with cravings and increasing distress tolerance can help to prevent relapse and promote recovery.

It is widely accepted that workers need to have established a period of personal practice as a necessary foundation before using this approach effectively with clients/service user/others. This one day course will give participants a practical introduction as well as the resources to begin practicing mindfulness.

Course Content:

  • An introduction to the exercises that are used in the Mindfulness Based Approaches
  • The key ideas behind the practice of mindfulness
  • Exploring some of the practical applications of Mindfulness and how they might be used with clients
  • Participants will be provided with materials to enable them to get started with their own practice in order to establish a foundation for utilising this approach with others
